THE STORY BEHIND
The painting expresses hope and blessings as well as hardship and pain. The viewer can experience either r both at a given moment. Generally, candels have deep symbolic meaning and are used in a wide variety of religious and spiritual rituals. The wax part symbolizes the ”body”, while the flame is equated with the ”soul”.
The wick, which is pronounced ”ptil-lah” in Hebrew, shares the letters with the Hebrew word for Prayer -Tphila, suggesting that the only way to connect the body to the soul is through Prayer.
